Coffee Guide
Everything you need to know about our coffee, sourcing and how to make the most of every cup.
Our Coffee
What makes Kalamalka coffee different?
We believe coffee should be something you can feel good
about drinking every day.
Kalamalka was created around three simple ideas: exceptional
coffee, thoughtful sourcing, and meaningful impact.
Our beans are certified organically grown, independently
tested, carefully sourced, and freshly roasted in the Northern Rivers,
Australia.
But we believe coffee can do more than taste good. Every
purchase helps support our clean water mission, creating a positive impact
beyond your own morning ritual.
Where are your beans sourced from?
Our coffee is sourced from carefully selected coffee growing
regions around the world.
Our current seasonal origins include Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica and East Timor.
Coffee is a seasonal agricultural product, so origins may
change throughout the year depending on availability, quality, and harvest
conditions.
Is Kalamalka coffee certified organic?
Our coffee beans are certified organically grown.
We believe transparency matters, so we are careful with how we describe our coffee. Our beans are certified organic before roasting, and we
work with trusted roasting partners who share our commitment to quality and
responsible practices.
What does "mycotoxin tested" mean?
Mycotoxins are naturally occurring compounds produced by certain types of mould that can develop in agricultural products during growing, processing, and storage.
Because we care about knowing exactly what goes into your cup, every batch of Kalamalka coffee is independently tested for mycotoxins as part of our commitment to quality and transparency.
We believe you deserve confidence in the coffee you drink every day, which is why testing is an important part of our quality process before our coffee reaches you.
If you’d like to learn more about our testing process or view our latest results, please contact us at hello@kalamalka.com.au and we’ll be happy to share more.
Can I see your mycotoxin testing results?
Absolutely. Transparency matters to us, and we’re happy to share more about our independent testing process and results with customers who would like to learn more.
Please contact us at hello@kalamalka.com.au and we’ll be happy to provide more information.
How fresh is my coffee?
We believe freshness matters, which is why we prepare and ship your coffee as quickly as possible once your order is received.
Our coffee is freshly roasted in the Northern Rivers, Australia, and every bag is stamped with its roast date so you know exactly when your coffee was roasted.
To help preserve freshness, our coffee is packaged in bags with a one-way valve and should be stored sealed in its original packaging until you’re ready to enjoy it.
Why do you only sell whole beans?
We currently only sell whole bean coffee because we believe freshly ground coffee creates the best possible flavour experience.
Coffee begins losing some of its aroma and flavour once ground, so keeping your beans whole allows you to enjoy a fresher, more vibrant cup.
We know everyone’s coffee setup is different, and we’re always listening to what our customers need. If you’d prefer pre-ground coffee, please reach out to us at hello@kalamalka.com.au — we’d love to hear from you.
How is your decaf coffee made?
Our Rest Organic Decaf uses the Mountain Water Process — a
natural decaffeination method that uses pure water to gently remove caffeine
without chemical solvents.
This process helps preserve the coffee’s natural flavour and character, allowing you to enjoy the ritual and flavour of coffee without the caffeine.
Which Kalamalka coffee should I choose?
We currently offer two coffees, each created for a different coffee ritual.
Rise Organic Espresso
Our signature espresso roast is smooth, balanced, and full of depth and sweetness. Designed to create a beautiful espresso, it’s also delicious brewed through other methods including plunger, pour over, or your favourite home coffee setup.
Rest Organic Decaf
A beautiful option for those who love the ritual of coffee but want to enjoy it without caffeine. Our decaf uses the Mountain Water Process to preserve the coffee’s natural flavour and character.
Brewing and Storage
How should I store my coffee?
Our bags are designed with a one-way valve to help protect freshness, so the best way to store your coffee is to keep it sealed in its original bag.
Store your coffee somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture.
If you prefer to transfer your beans out of the bag, we recommend using an airtight, opaque container to help protect the coffee’s freshness and flavour.
What grind size should I use?
The ideal grind depends on your brewing method:
- Espresso → fine grind
- Pour over → medium grind
- French press/plunger → coarse grind
A quality grinder is one of the best investments you can make for better coffee at home.
